Phase II
The work on our sanctuary renovation continues

I will try to bring you up to date on what is happening.  The most visible work that has been done recently is the staining of the woodwork in the chancel choir area, both the woodwork in front of the choir and the framework supporting the sound cloth behind the choir. It now has been stained to a darker color and the contrast is breathtaking.

For the next few days, the painters are stepping back and giving the electricians some space to do some of their work. This work includes removal of some older light fixtures in the ceiling and the placement of new lights in the ceiling in the “cave."

You can now see the finished flooring in the east and middle entrances.  With the addition of the rugs donated by Bobby Endter, the entrances will be a little more formal and, I think, be more in keeping with the atmosphere of the sanctuary.

As you know, the congregation voted on Sunday, November 2nd to borrow the funds necessary to complete the millwork and install more lighting in the “cave”. Because some of the lighting fixtures are custom made and not stock items, it will take more time to install these, but our committee thinks the result will be worth the wait.

The choir has made the decision to replace the coverings on their chairs. They will have a work session and change the coverings themselves. Their choice for new coverings is to be in the color range of the carpet but lighter in tone.

I want to impress on you, the congregation, to continue to support the Phase II project with your money.  We basically have two funds in Phase II. One is for the project itself and the other fund has been established because some of you have given monies specifically to reduce the note.  The third fund which was named the carpet fund was a way for you to give to the Phase II project. The idea was to purchase the carpet around your pew in the sanctuary.  But for now, the main drive for funding should be Phase II proper.

The church needs your financial support and your prayers for the completion n of Phase II. I promise you that when you return to your pew in the sanctuary, you will be thrilled with the new look of our place of worship.

Get ready! Anna Belle Miller, Anna Kate Bowen, Anna Leigh Mobley, Austin Walker, Blake Wheeler, Brooklyn O'Conner, Caroline Mobley, Chelsea Williams, Cooper Hill, Daniel Harrington, Emma Walker, John Daniel Baker, Joshua Rezek, Karsen Sanders, Kate Wheeler, Kaylen Colbert, Marci Miller, Molly Thompson, Nathan Harrington, Rachel Rollison, Scotty Waits, Thomas Lee Bales, Zaden Davis, and friends are bringing Beneath a Shining Star to a church service near you on December 14th. The presentation uses songs and movement with a "star-struck" student director to recall the events and meaning of the first Christmas Eve. The show is scheduled for the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service, is about 14 minutes long, will use the time given to the children's message and the adult choir's anthem, and will delight you I am sure.
The adult choir will be using songs from our Christmas Cantata for the Advent services. We began with "Emmanuel" and "The Star Carol" on November 30th. The full presentations of the cantata, Tom Fettke's setting of Carols and Classics, will joint presentations with the West Point United Methodist Church choir at 5:00 p.m on December 14th at West Point and on December 21st in the First Baptist Church - Aberdeen sanctuary. We are thankful to First Baptist for making their church available and we look forward to this sharing of time and talent in the "musical vineyards" of the Lord.
Please keep your requests and comments flowing. Better yet, come join us. Laura, Brenda and I send our regards to all.

Annual Christmas Party for Seniors Set for Dec. 7
The fourth annual older adult Christmas party, held by Deborah Herndon's Young Adult Sunday School Class, is slated for Sunday, December 7th.  The 5:30 p.m. event will take place at Shelaine Restaurant, said Herndon. "The fellowship hall was unavailable due to charge conference and choir cantatas during the month of December, so we will carry our party to Shelaine."
A special treat for the party will be the celebration of Reecie Lou Thompson's 90th birthday. Future plans are to honor members of FUMC on their 90th birthday at this Christmas party each year, explained Herndon.
As always, to attend this party, you must be 65 years of age or better (no cheating!) Herndon encouraged the church's seniors to "join us as we enjoy food, fellowship, entertainment, and door prizes."

Aberdeen & West Point Choirs Will Perform Jointly
Plans have been announced for a joint presentation of a Tom Fettke Christmas cantata by the chancel choirs of First United Methodist Church of Aberdeen and First United Methodist Church of West Point.
The initial performance will take place at FUMC-West Point on Sunday, December 14th, followed by a performance at FUMC-Aberdeen on Sunday, December 21st.

Pictorial Directory
Pat Ogden and Sally Scott have stepped forward and volunteered to be coordinators of the Pictorial Directory project.
Our current directory was printed in the year 2000.  Pictorial directories are great tools for church growth. They allow new and old members to have a way of connecting with one another.
Dates and more details will be forthcoming.
It's time to start thinking about the fast approaching Christmas season. Poinsettias will adorn our sanctuary again this year. If you would like to place a poinsettia in memory or honor of someone,  please call the church office with the appropriate information and contact the florist of your choice to place your order. The poinsettias will be in place on Sunday, December 14th and we ask that they remain until after the Christmas Eve service on Wednesday, December 24th.

Proceeds from Safari Note Card sales will benefit Phase II
In 2006, Banks Shepherd went to Kenya on a photographic safari. He made a set of note cards featuring some of the animals he photographed.
In 2007, Banks and Mary Ann returned to Kenya on another safari. They made a second set of cards which are completely different from the first set.
Both sets are available and are for sale at $15 per set. There are twelve different photographs in each set. Banks and Mary Ann want to donate $10 from the sale of each set to Phase II.
Some of you who bought the first set may want to add to the set or may want to give as gifts. Many of you have said that you did not want to use them, but keep them intact. Now is a good time to purchase a set to use and the money is going for a good cause.

See Banks or Mary Ann to purchase.
